Hi,
Is there a plan in the development so it supports newer versions of INDD files?

Hi,
Is there a plan in the development so it supports newer versions of INDD files?

Good morning Ben,
hope you are fine.
The answer here is that with Frontlab there is no need to do the conversion into IDML, you can mark online all INDD files in one go for online translation and once you finalize them you will get them all in INDD format again.
Re fees: I am trying to check with my coleagues, I understand your concern.
Re attachment: yes, you can't attachment here but if you'd like I can convert this post into ticket where you will be able to attach file and I can check for you if I can mark this file for online translation with Frontlab activated.
Hope above is helpful Ben.
Enjoy your day!
All the best
Wojciech
1 . you need to enable Preview INDD (from frontlab) => need an account in https://frontlab.com/ (need to contact sales)
2. then you will have an option to convert indd to idml.
Wordbee will accept this file.
Dear Wojciech,
Thanks for this explanation! We are actually looking right now for a way to import a very large project (200+ INDD files), which will take far too long to convert individually/manually.
Just so that we're clear, this plug-in will convert files to IDML, but if our client really needs to receive INDD files back (they're a third party themselves), is it also possible to have Wordbee/FrontLab convert the files back to .INDD, post-translation? Or would we then still need to convert the files back ourselves manually?
(Also, on the FrontLab website, it states that the cost of the service is a base fee, plus a "page preview fee". Am I right in assuming that this page preview fee is also the file conversion fee?)
Hope to hear from you soon.
All the best,
Ben Pleij,
Textwerk Project Manager.
EDIT:
Hi Wojciech,
I also just realised an extra question: will we be able, if we take out a FrontLab subscription, to batch-convert all the 200 files in one go from within the Documents tab in Wordbee, or would we still need to manually right-click all the individual files and convert to IDML per file?
Hi Ben,
Manual conversion is only necessary if you want to physically have an IDML in the document library besides the INDD file. Otherwise, you can just mark all of your INDD files for online translation as usual. This will do the conversion (and of course the translated files will be converted back to INDD.
Note that we'll soon be announcing an alternative to Frontlab for INDD conversion AND preview.
Best,
Brahim
Dear Brahim,
Thanks for the quick reply! I'm a bit puzzled by the answer though. We only need to convert the INDD files to IDML, because the INDD files we have right now aren't being accepted by Wordbee (I've added one of the files as example). We don't need another file-type ourselves for any reason. Are you saying that with the Frontlab plugin (or your future alternative), we won't need to do a conversion any more, as we will be able to do the translation straight in the editor? Right now, I'm really trying to find ways of doing this project without manually converting the files in InDesign ourselves.
EDIT: I've just noticed I can't add attachments here. Please let me know if you require the file for testing purposes.
I also haven't received an answer to my other question regarding fees. I can imagine that maybe you aren't the company to ask about this, but please let me know if this is so, as we'd really like to take on this (rather large) project soon, but need to know what our options are.
With kind regards,
Ben.
Hi Wojiciech,
yes, this is very helpful information, thanks! I now understand that with Frontlab there would not be a real need to convert the file, but we would be able to work with INDD files within the translation editor.
Could you convert this into a ticket please, so we can double-check this with one of our sample files? If so, it would really help us, and if the test would prove useful, we would very much be interested in getting this extra functionality. It would greatly smoothen our workflows.
All the best,
-Ben.
Hi Ben,
There are a few things to discuss here.
I'll reach out to you in a separate email.
Thanks,
Brahim
