The new editor is frustratingly slow, it freezes, it takes up loads of RAM... Can you please fix all this? I cannot go back to the old one because I'm working for an agency.

Niko Hello,
I am experiencing a big lag in Wordbee since the change of the platform.
It's been very frustrating, as I am paid per word and not per hours spent on the platform. I'm sure you'll agree that it is neither normal not acceptable, that 1000 words proofreading take 4-5 hours because of the lagging.
Furthermore, the materials that are supposed to guide us through the new platform are too long, too unclear, the keyword search doesn't return adequate results and in general, I doubt it that any of my colleagues has the time to go through all the documentation.
I have simple questions to which I cannot find the answers anywhere. I'd appreciate if you kindly advise on the following:
1. How I can search the TM for matches as I can't find a TM search bar?
2. How can I compare side by side paragraphs that show inconsistent translations during QA check?
The previous version of the platform was amazing. Simple, user-friendly, fast and reliable. It was a pleasure using it. Unfortunately the current one doesn't even come close to that. I cannot go back to the old platform as I am working for an agency. Luckily some other clients are still using the previous version.
I think an online training or recorded video should be provided to users who'd like to get familiar with the features for translation/proofreading. Looking at the comments of my colleagues I am sure they'd appreciate such. After all, the majority of companies like SDL provide short videos to explain the most important steps. It would be great if you could look at the things from the user's point of view and simplify the platform.
Kind regards,
Niko

Ibai Munoz I have waited several months before commenting in the hopes that the bugs would be fixed, but I have to agree, the new editor is extremely slow and a memory hog. Several times a day I will have to kill tabs to free up ram when the editor becomes unresponsive. Turning pages is very slow, showing the search results is slow, clicking anything is slow.

Sab It's even slower day by day. Useless software. It's a pity, and it's appalling, since the previous version was really good. I don't know what you did here or why you did it, but this version is a total failure. Has it received positive feedback even once in the past year? Do you actually still think it's a good, efficient platform? Are you reading these posts?

Stephan Böhmig Hello, we are sorry for this and a preliminary fix will be released tomorrow followed by a definitive fix still in August. We will communicate on this by different channels.

Bart Hendrickx Mike,
Below are answers to some questions raised in this thread. These come from people in my team.
> How I can search the TM for matches as I can't find a TM search bar?
Using this search bar:
Click the arrow to the right of the Global Search icon to display the search bar.
Note: what matches you find using the Translation Finder will depend on the linguistic resources that are attached to the project. If authorized, you can also use Global Search, here again, this will depend on access rights and how your platform is configured.
> How can I compare side by side paragraphs that show inconsistent translations during QA check?
Inconsistent translations are flagged with the Translation - Consistency QA check. You can use the dropdown menu at the top of the Quality Assurance window to filter a specific check and click Show all in the editor to show erroneous segments side by side.
> I think an online training or recorded video should be provided to users who'd like to get familiar with the features for translation/proofreading.
When you register for this webinar--it's in the past but read on--you can access a recording of my colleague Andrea Benedetti discussing the editor.

There are a couple more items in this thread that are more about the long term. I'll get back here with more info in a later post.

Bart Hendrickx Mike,
According to feedback we received from users, the Editor is performing okay when working with medium-size to big documents. We did receive negative feedback about working with huge documents with a huge number of segments and/or tags.
We managed to decrease the memory consumption when loading a document with a huge number of tags.
We're aware that moving between pages in huge documents can still cause issues.
We've started reworking the backbone of the Editor to further optimize the performance. It's a gigantic project, requiring a lot of code base (re)engineering. While we are working on this new backbone, we are benefiting from the occasion to improve the overall user experience. For instance, you can expect a simpler, minimalistic design, that favors speed.
This is a work in progress. We already communicated, outside this forum, about reviewing an early alpha version. I or someone in the team will be in touch.

Mike Holland Bart,
Thanks! I think users have already told Wordbee the features they want in a translation editor, so won't go into that here.
I think it would be a good idea to keep the old editor as an alternative until people are satisfied completely with the new editor.
Wouldn't mind having the option of choosing each time what editor I'd like to use (now you have to select the checkbox to use new editor, close Chrome, then restart Chrome).
Rather than one long video we have to watch in the hope of finding relevant footage on the feature we are trying to figure out, I would rather have short videos (around 3 min each?) that quickly and easily tell you how to do things. Organize them in one site. Have tool tips that pop up in the editor for all features when you hover over them that give relevant info on what pressing the button, for example, does.
Thanks for working on improving the user experience. Look forward to testing the alpha version.
Best,
Mike

Roman Krakovic Bart,
I just prolonged my license >>hoping the old editor will be running a year again<<, I'm using term editor and global search option.
Not only the server speed is consuming time, the editor design is the second main thing.
I'm working mostly on a Full HD Netbook,
1) I unhappy when poping up windows are covering piece of text when mouse goes over some places. There is no need to use the mouse when working, but to correct this I do not need to touch the mouse. Please see
May be there is an option to hide this, I did not find it.
2) Compared to the old editor I can see much less text in the new editor and have to scroll up and down again and again.
I'm looking forward testing the alpha version, please inform me about it.

Mike Holland Hi Roman,
I think you can get rid of the annoying popup by selecting View > Interface > deselect Compact view. But that will result in you seeing less text in the editor window. Either way you seem to lose. Would be nice if they suppressed the popup in Compact view mode.

Bart Hendrickx Roman, Mike,
Thank you for your input. I shared it with the team and will report back here (I or someone else in the team).
Roman--I dmed you about the alpha version. Thanks for expressing your interest in testing it.

Sab Oh, if it's possible to do some testing to give feedback I would love to help. I am the original poster and I still encounter a lot of issues, but I don't feel comfortable posting screenshots or videos since I work with WB editor only for one client, and I don't want to jeopardize confidentiality (and going through the effort of redacting every line of text is honestly too much for me).
So please feel free to DM me if I can join the testing.
Thanks,
Sab

Bart Hendrickx Sab,
Thanks. I DM-ed you as well.

Bart Hendrickx Re: some of the points in this thread:
> keep the old editor as an alternative until people are satisfied completely with the new editor.
Agreed, that is what we plan to do. You'll be able to toggle between editors.
> having the option of choosing each time what editor I'd like to use
Good suggestion. We'll be looking into ways how we could facilitate this.
> unhappy when poping up windows are covering piece of text
We hear you. We're limiting popups in the future version to the absolute minimum. If it can be zero, we'll want that. There are no popups in the alpha version so far.
> I can see much less text in the new editor
You'll be able to see more text in the future editor because we're making it more compact by default.

Mike Holland Bart,
Thanks for responding. Is there some place where we can check the status of release of the future editor? Something like a Gantt chart would be nice that includes what features already implemented in it and timeline for future feature releases.
I was thinking it would be nice to give people a heads-up so they could comment on the progress and priority of feature releases.
Best,
Mike
-
Bart Hendrickx Mike,
We don't have such a place.
It would indeed be nice... and it would be out of date soon after publishing. Remember we're using the feedback from the alpha test as one of the inputs for product decisions. That makes it harder to predict the future.
For the time being, we're using a more informal approach for this alpha test. I'm keeping your suggestion in mind as a possible improvement for this process.
Thanks,
Bart

Mike Holland Bart,
Understood. Is there any update on the product? When it might be available for testing, new features added, etc.?
Thanks,
Mike

Bart Hendrickx Mike,
Any other day now. We're almost ready; it's just a matter of setting up accounts and resources. I reached out to candidate testers (including you) via email today.
Thanks,
Bart
