It is my understanding that in Old Editor, segment status and bookmarks are applied to source segments only. In New Editor, we have an option to apply those to either source or target.
If we apply error statuses to target segments and use the option to exclude error segments from memory copy, would it still work or do we need to change the status of the source segments?

The both editors always applied bookmarks and status value on the "target segment", but indeed it is confusing for the "Old editor".
Each jobs, and peripheral features are compatible in the both editors.

Thanks for your reply. Glad to hear that those features are compatible in both editors.
One minor point: It seems like we can select the language in the New Editor so what if Translators accidentally add the status or change the status of the source language?

Hello Sachiyo,
It is true, in the new editor you can change status, bookmark and others information on the source language, but It's only possible if you have the rights to edit the source part of the document.
